Smart Communications Inc. teamed up with MPower, Manila Electric Co’s (Meralco) retail electricity supplier, to power 144 cell sites and nine facilities under the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
“Our group has always believed that national progress depends on two essential foundations: reliable power and strong digital connectivity,” said Manuel Pangilinan, chairman and chief executive of PLDT Inc., Smart and Meralco in a statement.
“One cannot function without the other — hand in glove, so to speak — and both are critical to ensuring that our people, especially those in the margins, have access to opportunity,” he said.
PLDT and Smart’s transition to the RAP through MPower’s energy solutions covers a total demand of over 2,500 kilowatts across the PLDT Group’s integrated network. Further RAP implementations across more sites in Visayas and Mindanao are planned before the end of the year.
The RAP allows end-users to manage their energy requirements by aggregating multiple accounts within the same franchise area and purchasing power in bulk from licensed retail electricity suppliers.
