PAGCOR signs up as forest partner for Earth Day run

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has signed on as a Forest Champion Partner for the “A Run for a Million Trees” event aimed at reforestation and watershed rehabilitation.

The Earth Day fun run, organized by the Million Trees Foundation Inc. (MTFI), is scheduled for April 11 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila. The event seeks to mobilize thousands of participants to support large-scale environmental restoration.

As a Forest Champion Partner, PAGCOR will provide funding for the propagation of native tree seedlings in accredited nurseries, tree-growing activities and site preparation. The support also covers monitoring and maintenance programs to ensure long-term survival rates and community-based environmental awareness initiatives.

The partnership highlights the agency’s expanding corporate social responsibility agenda beyond its regulatory mandate.

PAGCOR chairman and chief executive Alejandro Tengco said the leadership vision focuses on a shared responsibility where public institutions participate in safeguarding watersheds that supply water to Metro Manila and surrounding provinces.

MTFI president and executive-director Melandrew Velasco welcomed the agency’s involvement in the project.

“Strong institutions like PAGCOR play a vital role in building climate resilience,” Velasco said.

“Their partnership strengthens our collective effort to restore forests and secure water for future generations,” he said.

The event is expected to draw a diverse group of environmental advocates, corporate partners, civic organizations, and youth groups. Organizers said the collaboration underscores that environmental protection has become a national priority requiring cross-sector cooperation.

Registration for the run remains open until March 20. Interested participants can find registration details on the Million Trees Foundation Facebook page.

The Million Trees Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization focused on watershed rehabilitation and sustainability through the nurturing and monitoring of trees in critical areas.
