The Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev) and the Naga City government signed a memorandum of agreement Saturday to launch an artificial intelligence-powered platform to modernize transport and mobility planning.
Supported by a P6.79 million grant from the National Innovation Council, the project aims to create a people-centered system to improve walkability and urban logistics within the city.
The Naga City AI Planner integrates land use, transport, tourism and vendor activity data. The system utilizes AI image recognition and mobile application data collection to automate analytics, allowing officials to develop evidence-based interventions for city traffic.
DEPDev Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon and Naga City Mayor Maria Leonor Robredo formalized the partnership during a transport summit held at the Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology.
The initiative leverages Seermo, a sustainable mobility solution, to help the local government and the Naga People’s Council generate real-time data.
Beyond planning, the digital platform allows pedestrians and motorists to report road crashes or illegal parking instantly. These features are expected to accelerate the updating of public transport route plans and help the city manage economic impacts during high-traffic events like local festivals.
“We share the goal of Naga People’s Council to attain a walkable, orderly, and secure city through people-centered, evidence-based transportation planning and monitoring and evaluation,” Edillon said.
“By supporting this project, we want to raise awareness among LGUs across the country that AI can help make the delivery of their services to the people more efficient,” she said.
