Visa, a world leader in digital payments, has teamed up with GCash to deliver seamless and secure cross-border wallet funding solutions.
Visa Direct now makes it easier for individuals and businesses worldwide to send money directly to GCash wallets, giving more than 90 million GCash users in the Philippines a fast, secure and convenient way to receive funds from overseas.
Additionally, overseas Filipinos can now use their foreign-issued Visa cards as a funding source within the GCash Overseas app. This initiative marks a significant step toward making financial transactions more accessible for Filipinos and visitors.
The Philippines ranks among Asia-Pacific’s top adopters of digital remittances, according to Visa’s “Money Travels: 2025 Digital Remittances Adoption Report,” which covers 44,000 remittance senders and receivers in 20 countries and territories.
Around 74 percent of Filipinos have opted to send money through digital means, while 66 percent prefer to receive remittances digitally. Close to half, or 45 percent of respondents, cited digital remittances as a safe and private way to send and receive funds.
Eight out of 10 Filipinos have used GCash, underscoring its reach and impact in everyday payments across the country. Across all demographics, Filipinos have embraced digital apps when sending and receiving remittances.
Digital apps are preferred by older users, with 100 percent of respondents from the Philippines aged 65 and older planning to send remittances digitally. This is higher than the 45-64 age bracket (72 percent), 35-44 bracket (75 percent) and 18-34 bracket (74 percent).
“Our mission at GCash is to make financial services accessible to every Filipino. By teaming up with Visa, we’re expanding our reach and delivering even greater value to our users, both at home and abroad,” said Paul Albano, GCash International general manager.
Jeffrey Navarro, country manager for Visa Philippines, said the company shares with GCash a long-standing commitment to make payments safer and more seamless.
“With this cross-border account funding solution, we hope to make payments even more flexible for millions of overseas Filipinos and tourists and bring them the benefits of Visa’s global network and leadership in technology,” Navarro said. “This also aligns with the government’s goal to expand financial inclusion while transforming the country to become a cash-lite society.”
