Construction material prices continue decline

The cost of construction materials in Metro Manila saw a slower pace of decline in September 2025 led by an annual increase in the heavily-weighted index for concrete products, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Friday.

Data from the PSA showed that the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CWPI) for the National Capital Region (NCR) decreased 0.2 percent in September, a smaller drop compared with the 0.5-percent decline recorded in August. The September figure also reversed a 0.3-percent annual upward growth rate seen in the same month last year.

The PSA attributed the “uptrend in the annual growth rate of the CMWPI in the NCR” primarily to the annual increase in the heavily-weighted index of concrete products, which rose 0.2 percent in September from a 0.6-percent annual decline in August.

Slower annual decreases were also recorded for cement products (1.2 percent from 1.3 percent), electrical works (0.4 percent from 0.5 percent) and fuels and lubricants (2.8 percent from 3.2 percent).

Faster annual declines were recorded in the indices of plywood (0.3 percent from 0.2 percent), reinforcing steel (1.4 percent from 1.3 percent) and structural steel (2.8 percent from 1.9 percent). Metal products also registered a 0.4-percent drop in its index, from a flat growth a month earlier.
