Manila Water Infratech Solutions (MWIS), a unit of Manila Water, has installed its iTECH Packaged Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in a quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain and at an airport, marking a step forward in sustainable wastewater management in the Philippines.
The installation at Lio El Nido Airport in Palawan is the first of its kind in the Philippine aviation industry. The system addresses the challenge of treating aircraft lavatory waste, which contains chemicals that conventional treatment systems cannot process.
The iTECH system, launched in 2024, uses advanced membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology to filter contaminants and pathogens, including nitrate and phosphate. The technology helps the aviation company comply with environmental standards and preserve the natural environment in Palawan.
A QSR chain also installed the iTECH Packaged STP at its Wilson San Juan branch. The system treats wastewater to meet and exceed the standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
With a daily treatment capacity of 10 cubic meters, the iTECH Packaged STP is designed for small to medium-sized industrial facilities and remote locations. Its compact, “plug-and-play” design allows for low-maintenance operation and rapid deployment in confined spaces.
