Maya, Philippine Sports Commission team up to digitize local sports

MANILA, Philippines—Maya, the Philippines’ top fintech ecosystem and digital bank, has partnered with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to modernize the country’s sports industry.

The “Championing the Pinoy Athlete” initiative aims to digitize sports governance and provide stronger financial support for Filipino athletes and coaches. The collaboration will enable cashless payments and automate the disbursement of allowances to athletes and coaches.

The program also includes a transparent system for National Sports Associations to ensure better governance and accountability. Additionally, it will promote financial wellness by integrating tools like savings, credit, insurance, and investments for athletes, coaches, and PSC employees, helping them build long-term financial security.

Beyond the field, the initiative seeks to make digital financial services accessible for everyday use and create new ways to engage fans and stakeholders during key national sports events.

“This partnership is about more than technology—it’s about giving our athletes the support they deserve both on and off the field,” said Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Group president and Maya Bank co-founder.

“Together with PSC, we’re building a stronger financial foundation for Philippine sports and helping empower every Filipino athlete to reach world-class status,” he said.

PSC chairman John Patrick Gregorio said the agency is committed to “changing the game in sports governance by embracing digitalization and making it easier to serve the needs of athletes and the entire sports community.”

“Our athletes give their all for the country. This collaboration ensures their support is just as strong—swift, secure and transparent,” he said.

Maya, which has supported major initiatives like the UAAP and the country’s Olympic campaigns, offers an all-in-one digital banking and wallet app with savings, credit and investment tools.
