PSA warns public vs. National ID phishing

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) warned the public about phishing scams conducted via phone calls, text messages, emails and messaging apps by individuals or groups impersonating agency staff.

These scammers attempt to obtain personal information, including bank and mobile wallet details, by claiming to be PSA employees and offering to help replace National IDs. Some even initiate video calls.

The PSA emphasized that these activities are not authorized. The agency said it does not offer National ID replacement services through mobile or video calls, or by sending emails with suspicious links to download the eGovPH app.

Services related to the National ID are provided on-site during office hours, as they require identity verification, it said.

The eGovPH app is exclusively available for download from the official Google Play Store for Android devices and Apple App Store for iOS devices. Downloading the app from unofficial sources and suspicious links can pose security risks and increase vulnerability to fraud, the PSA said.
