Petron, UPLB team up for carbon assessment

Petron, through Petron Foundation Inc. (PFI), is strengthening its commitment to managing its environmental impact through a partnership with the University of the Philippines Los Baños-College of Forestry and Natural Resources (UPLB-CFNR) and the UPLB Foundation Inc.

Petron tapped UPLB to conduct a science-based assessment of sequestered carbon in adopted areas under Petron’s Puno ng Buhay reforestation program.

The signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Jan. 7, 2025 was led by PFI executive director Mia Delos Reyes, UPLB Foundation executive director Enrico Supangco, UPLB Chancellor Jose Camacho, and UPLB-CFNR Dean Marlo Mendoza at the UPLB campus.

The partnership will bring together a team of experts from UPLB specializing in Forest Carbon Analysis, Flora and Fauna, GIS/Remote Sensing, Socioeconomics, and Mangrove Silviculture. The study will initially focus on Petron’s mangrove sites in Davao, Roxas and Bulacan spanning 55 hectares.
