The Philippine Consulate General concluded its year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Philippines–China diplomatic relations with film series titled Sine Filipino sa Konsulado.
Running from Nov. 29 to Dec. 13, 2025, the event featured three weekends of engaging cinema that highlighted Filipino culture and experiences.
The film series kicked off with a selection of four acclaimed short films: Jodilerks Dela Cruz: Employee of the Month, Pusong Bato, Excuse Me, Miss, Miss, Miss and Ngohiong.
The films provided a glimpse into the everyday lives and cultural nuances of the Philippines, resonating deeply with the audience.
The second weekend showcased the documentary Ang Babae sa Likod ng Mambabatok, which focuses on Apo Whang-Od Oggay, a revered cultural bearer.
The film celebrated the creativity, resilience and enduring values of indigenous Philippine traditions, enriching the viewers’ understanding of Filipino heritage.
Capping off the series was the screening of Sonata, a full-length feature by acclaimed filmmakers Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes.
It explores Filipino culture through music and lullabies, weaving narratives of love, friendship and the transformative power of art.
Throughout the series, audiences enjoyed Philippine tourism videos, insights into the Consulate’s new visa process, traditional Filipino snacks and original Pilipino music (OPM), creating a vibrant cultural tapestry that celebrated film, cuisine, and travel promotion.
Consul General Iric Cruz Arribas said cultural diplomacy plays a vital role in strengthening people-to-people ties and showcasing Philippine creativity and traditions to local communities.
The film screenings aligned with the 18-day campaign to end violence against women, utilizing the medium of film as a powerful platform for dialogue on social issues, inclusion, and human dignity.
The films featured in Sine Filipino sa Konsulado were provided by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
