The Pampanga Delta and the Muntinlupa Water Warriors beat their respective opponents last Sunday to climb in the team standings of the Chooks-to-Go National Basketball League Chairman’s Cup 2021 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Encho Serrano scored a team-high 13 points as the Delta defeated the Paranaque Aces, 69-55, to take third place in the team standings with a 5-1 win-loss record.
Jed Mendoza had 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, nine steals and four steals to power the Water Warriors to a 76-67 victory over the Taguig Generals to take fourth place along with the Quezon Barons with a 4-1 win-loss slate.
The Delta and the Water Warriors are within striking distance of first place La Union PAOwer (4-0) and Bulacan DF Republicans (6-1) in the standings following Sunday’s games.
MJ Garcia and Rhanzelle Yong scored 10 points each, and made key baskets in the fourth quarter including a triple by Garcia with 1:03 left that increased the Delta lead to 11 points, 66-55.
The Water Warriors overcame a slow start as they trailed by 13 points, 18-5, by slicing the gap to two, 22-20, at the end of the first. They outscored the Generals, 22-11, in the second quarter and the Water Warriors were ahead, 42-33, at halftime.
Muntinlupa pulled away in the second half and led by as many as 17 points.
The Aces lost for the third time in four games despite a gallant stand against the Delta, while the Generals also went winless in their two weekend games, settling for a 3-2 win-loss mark.
