Last year’s red carpet was held in multiple homes, so when stars emerged from the television screen to grace the stage at the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards, they made sure they looked their best—with a tad touch of relaxed vibe (minimal accessories, loose clothing, slip dresses). The winners in the unofficial fashion category of this year’s event were those who were brave to sport neons, mile-long hemlines, and understated style.
Anya Taylor-Joy
The lead of the Outstanding Limited Series winner “The Queen’s Gambit” was a sight to behold in a cream satin gown by Dior Haute Couture with a dramatic yellow train paired with sparkling Tiffany & Co. jewelry and Old Hollywood hair and makeup (bright red lipstick, of course).
Kerry Washington
Let’s give it to the slick braided ponytail and long drop earrings from De Beers which complemented Kerry Washington’s custom Etro silver slip dress with an exterior corset. Her red lips (quite popular on the red carpet) stood out in the silver and sparkles.
MJ Rodriguez
We love us some MJ Rodriguez, who, like Blanca Evangelista in “Pose”, did not disappoint in light blue, one-shoulder custom Atelier Versace with thigh-high slit. She paired the gown with matching open-toed stilettos and diamond choker necklace from Bulgari.
Elizabeth Olsen
The “WandaVision” star gave a chic Old Hollywood look with her flowing cream tent dress with cape-like sleeves and V-neckline from The Row, the label founded by her sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen. The pared-down number juxtaposed with Elizabeth’s glam hair and makeup and huge Chopard earrings.
Sarah Paulson
“Ratched’s” very own Nurse Mildred Ratched brought the drama to the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles in voluminous Carolina Herrera. As red as her lipstick, the gown featured a plunging neckline, puff sleeves, and a full skirt. She finished the look with a sleek hairdo and diamond earrings from Mateo.
Kaley Cuoco
While we applaud Michaela Coel’s stunning neon yellow two-piece outfit, we’re giving the neon nod to “The Flight Attendant” star Kaley Cuoco’s custom Vera Wang Haute dress with floral-embellished straps, thigh-high slit, and billowy train. She wore matching sandals, diamonds by De Beers, messy updo, and “no-makeup” makeup.
