Jeric Gonzales weighs in on playing gay roles

In a recent virtual interview, Jeric Gonzales, who was last seen in GMA-7’s Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko Presents Captain Barbie, said that if given a chance, he is willing to play a gay character on screen.

For the 29-year-old Kapuso star, tackling this role is no big deal.

“I’m an actor and whatever role that will be offered which I think I can do, I will grab it especially if I will see that it is relevant to the story, the more that I want to do it,” Jeric explains.

Many think that it will be interesting to see him breathe life to such character especially during these times when the so-called BL (Boy Love) genre has become popular among viewers.

Interestingly, who among the present crop of actors will he pick to be his partner?

“Honestly, it’s hard to choose.”

Some suggest that he and fellow Kapuso hunk Ruru Madrid will be an exciting screen tandem to watch if ever.

“Well, why not? We’re good pals. Our friendship dates back to our Protégé days many years back. I believe it will be easier to act out a scene with someone whom you’re close with.

“The result will be fine. For one, there will be no awkwardness since you’re both comfortable with each other. Surely, Ruru and I will laugh a lot in between takes. Everything will be light!” Jeric ended.

Barbie Forteza used to hold the moniker as GMA’s Tween Queen because of the success of her earlier shows. But now that she’s 24, she is tagged as GMA’s Primetime Princess. Asked as to who is the rightful heir to her former throne, the talented actress averred:

“Actually, I haven’t heard of the term Tween Queen for a long time now! Ha-ha-ha! But personally, I think, everyone is deserving of the title. It’s not for me to decide.”

Cassey Legaspi, Jillian Ward, Sofia Pablo, Althea Ablan and Elijah Alejo are touted as some of the strong contenders for the title.

“You know the younger crop of stars now? They are really prepared for the competition. Acting-wise, the way they handle themselves, the way they approach their seniors, they’re respectful. In all aspects, they are simply competitive!”

She is currently seen in the weekly musical extravaganza “All Out Sundays.” Although she enjoys her stint as one of its mainstays, Barbie confesses that she already misses doing heavy dramas.

“Oh yes! I miss acting. I wouldn’t deny that it’s my first love. I hope I’ll be able to do one in the coming days whether it’s a movie or soap opera. I just want to act again,” she stated.
