One of the common, but not yet as popular as it should be, products that promote zero-waste is shampoo bar – shampoo sans plastic bottle. Makes sense, right?
Shampoo bar is made with a base formula same as body soap, with added ingredients for hair care. According to brands making shampoo bars, production uses less water and the product itself contains less water than its liquid counterparts. It often comes in recyclable packaging or sold “naked”.
Using a shampoo bar is the same as how one would use a body bar: wet the hair and lather the bar between wet hands or directly to the wet hair, rubbing in circular motion from roots to tips. Most bars can last up to 60 to 80 washes, depending on use.
Aside from the big names selling shampoo bars, these small online stores and brands make a case for the solid shampoo.
Mabula PH
This store offers vegan shampoo bars, conditioner bars, and multi-bars, the latter can be used from head to toe. The paraben- and silicone-free multi-bars are handcrafted by farmers in Zamboanga del Sur, and, according to the store, are safe for children and pregnant women.
The multi-bar promises to help treat acne, eczema, insect bites, and other skin problems, as well as remove dead skin cells and rejuvenate dry and flaky skin. If used on the hair, it cleanses and removes impurities from the scalp, lessens hair fall, and increases hair volume.
Ayo Organics
This startup brand offers cruelty-free personal care essentials made with naturally-derived ingredients
According to Ayo Organics, they use mild surfactant, a foaming ingredient made from coconut oils, butter, and herbal extract in their product range (which consists of shampoo, conditioner, face, and body bars). One of their bestselling shampoo bars, the vitamin C and E-enriched Orange shampoo and conditioner in one helps boost hair growth.
Soak Opera
An indie personal care startup founded by a couple, Soak Opera promotes organic and cruelty-free products.
Its shampoo bars come in three variants: Smooth, Cool, and Bounce, all eco-friendly and can last up to 60 washes. The Smooth variant is for dry and dull hair, the Cool is for those who have itchy scalp and dandruff, while the Bounce is for greasy and flat hair.
In addition to solid shampoos, the brand also offers a conditioner bar, soap bars, body scrubs, lip balms, and face masks. Theriz Lizel R. Silvano
