Laguna-born photographer Czar Kristoff bagged the second 300,000-peso grant from the Portfolio Art Prize.
The Portfolio Prize was conceived by Italian Ambassador Giorgio Guglielmino and Hugo Bunzl, in partnership with the Drawing Room Gallery and curator Angel Velasco Shaw. The grant awarded was raised from the sale of a portfolio, entitled “2020,” containing 10 photographic works by several artists.
Prizes are awarded to young artists who have been selected by a special jury. The first winner was multidisciplinary artist Issay Rodriguez.
Kristoff’s works span across photography, video, site specific installation, and independent publishing. The P300,000 he received during an intimate awarding ceremony at the Drawing Room Gallery is intended to help him continue his work amid current challenges.
“Actually the other day I was reflecting on my first photographs and projects,” shared Kristoff. “I also realized that this month marks the 10th year of my photography journey which has been a rollercoaster ride.”
“I had many doubts and challenges along the way as a young artist, but photography allowed me to stay on track,” he added.
Guglielmino and Bunzl hope that new sales of the limited edition portfolio will soon allow them to hand over another prize to support young talented artists in this unprecedented time.
