Non-residents are prohibited to buy liquor or any intoxicating drinks in Pasay City.

Members of the City Council passed an ordinance prohibiting the sale of wine and other intoxicating beverages beyond 8 p.m. to non-residents.

Ordinance 6162, approved on March 17, 2021, specifically amended Section 2 of Ordinance 6145, which was passed last year regulating the sale, distribution, purchase and serving of liquor within the city from 8 a.m. up to 8 p.m. only.

Under the new ordinance, all persons “natural or juridical are temporarily restricted to purchase, sell or offer for sale any liquor products within the city until such time that the community quarantine has been lifted in Metro Manila, except from eight in the morning until eight in the evening.

Meanwhile, city residents are allowed to purchase liquor during the window hours but they are required to show proof of their home address.

Establishments within the city like restaurants and hotels are also allowed to serve liquor within the prescribed period, but they must be consumed within the establishments only.

Mayor Imelda Rubiano said that as much as she wanted that the city’s economy be fully opened, she was constrained to come up with some regulations that were designed to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease.

“I ask for the understanding and patience of the people. Although I want businesses to operate normally, the continuing spike of active cases COVID-19 stopped us to do so,” said Rubiano.

Rubiano commended her men and the community leaders in their initiatives to fight the deadly virus. She said they succeeded in bringing down the cases in the city because of their effective contract tracing as well as their localized lockdowns.

As of Thursday, 9,375 (88.20%) residents infected with COVID-19 have already recovered with 146 new recoveries.

Of the total 10,629 confirmed cases, only 987 (9.28%) are active even as 190 were categorized as new cases.

Rubiano reminded her constituents to always practice the “E.M.I. Habit” – Ensure to always wash your hands; Mask and face shield are a must; and Implement physical distancing.

She also reminded city residents to limit interaction at less than 15 minutes with proper ventilation.
