Globe promotes 4G as mobile standard

Globe Telecom Inc. said Friday it is positioning 4G as the new standard of mobile internet in the country to achieve a First World network.

The telecom unit of the Ayala Group said the shift towards the more advanced and faster 4G LTE technology saw a significant decline in the number of customers using 3G technology and 3G data usage.

The company posted a 47.4-percent drop in the number of customers using 3G from May 2020 until January this year. 3G refers to the third generation of wireless mobile telecommunications technology which was introduced in 2001.

Globe also posted a 34 percent increase in the number of customers using LTE from May 2020 until January 2021. “We have been anticipating the decline in 3G users as more customers are realizing the benefits of using 4G LTE for better data experience and faster internet speed,” said Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for program delivery.
