This after four of its players tested positive for Covid-19 following a re-swab on Monday.

During in the initial test, it was reported that one player from Basilan Steel tested positive for the virus.

The whole squad was put in quarantine for seven days after which a second test was to be conducted, on the condition set by MPBL that the team will lose by default if more players will turn  positive tests for Covid-19.

Then on Tuesday the result came.

“Update is four ang positive,” MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes was quoted as saying by a source.

This prompted Duremdes to declare Davao Occidental the winner by default in what was supposed to be a division playoff between the two teams.

The two squads were knotted at 1-1 when the pandemic forced the MPBL to stop play a year ago.

Basilan drew first blood against the Tigers back on March 9 last year, 74-72 at the RDR Gymnasium in Tagum City, before Davao tied the series two days after, 81-76, at the Lamitan Capitol Gym.

The Davao Occidental Tigers will advance against San Juan-Go for Gold in a championship rematch, this time in a bubble-type finale at the Subic Bay Gymnasium in Zambales.

The quest for the Lakan championship trophy will begin at4 p.m. tomorrow (March 17).  Randy Caluag
