The Bureau of Customs exceeded its February target with collections reaching P46.145 billion despite the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bureau’s Financial Service office said the amount was 9.5 percent higher than its P42.157 billion collection target.
Ten of 17 collection districts surpassed their respective collection targets last month, namely the Port of Legaspi, Port of Tacloban, Port of Cagayan De Oro, Port of Subic, Port of Batangas, Port of Iloilo, Port of Clark, Port of Davao, Port of Manila, and the Manila International Container Port.
Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero said the surplus was achieved through the intensified collective efforts of all ports and the improvement of the volume of importation.
He also credited the government’s effort to ensure the unhampered movement of goods while maintaining border security.
