ASF-affected villages in CdO now at 7–DA

The Department of Agriculture has identified seven barangays in Cagayan de Oro affected by the African swine fever (ASF).

DA Assistant Regional Director Carlota Madriag of Region 10 Field Operations Division said five more villages have been ASF-affected on Tuesday, bringing the total to seven barangays.

“As of today, there has been an increase in Cagayan de Oro in terms of infection. The adjacent barangays have been affected, so we now have seven,” he said.

Apart from Cagayan de Oro, the agriculture department is also closely monitoring Misamis Oriental with two ASF-affected villages.

Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Emano issued an executive order temporarily banning the shipment of hogs and other pork products from the affected areas, as well as the entry of pork products from backyard hog raisers.

“Shipment from commercial farms (is allowed) as long as it has the complete requirements, such as the veterinary health certificate, licenses and permits. But (hogs from) backyard farms are temporarily banned,” he said.

Over 500 hogs were culled in Misamis Oriental due to the ASF.

“Bukidnon has the biggest production area of hogs in Mindanao. Its surplus is being brought outside not only in Luzon, but in other areas in Mindanao and in the Visayas,” he said.
