The Philippines topped Thailand which placed second. The Philippines posted a 29-percent boost while Hong Kong showed an improvement of 14 percent.

The country also overtook Australia and Hong Kong, ranking second in 5G download speed improvement with 10.1 times increase versus 4G at 117.2 megabits per second.

Ian Fogg, Opensignal lead analyst, said “for 5G to be relevant to mainstream mobile users, the latest mobile technology must offer an excellent and superior mobile network experience. In this analysis, we quantify just how good the 5G experience can be.”

Globe was the first mobile operator in Southeast Asia to commercially launch 5G for home back in 2019. It launched its 5G for mobile in 2020. Globe said it has the widest 5G coverage in the country.

The telco said it continued to expand its 5G network, now covering 80 percent of Metro Manila. Continuous expansion is being done in key areas nationwide driven by the demand of the public for better connectivity, it said.

“We are inching closer to fulfilling the vision towards a first world network. Creating a nation that thrives digitally begins with a robust network using the most advanced technologies and allowing our customers to fully experience our digital offers and solutions,” said Globe president and chief executive Ernest Cu.

The company budgeted P70 billion in capital expenditures this year, higher from last year’s P50 billion.

Globe said it is leading the country’s digital transformation by introducing innovative solutions in the areas of financial technology, telemedicine, e-commerce, digital advertising, cybersecurity, enterprise cloud applications, customer service and even technology for social good.
