Cozy caftans

Equal parts luxurious and liberating, caftans make for a perfect loungewear what with its billowy, loose silhouette that’s as alluring as it is comfortable.

This traditional Middle Eastern garment (usually spelled with a “k”), worn by Ottoman sultans and Moroccan dignitaries of centuries past, is usually made of silk and embellished with ornate beading.

Flowy caftans with pretty pastel flowers, dark blooms, and green and orange floral designs by Anthony Nocom for SM Woman.

The caftan was later introduced to Western society and adapted in the 1950s and ‘60s by leading couturiers such as Cristobal Balenciaga and Christian Dior as a new form of evening gown.

Today’s caftans are worn inside and outside—just look at Rihanna, the Olsen twins, and Andre Leon Talley stepping out or walking the red carpet in this luxurious garment.

And with more of us spending more time at home, Tory Burch, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Pucci, as well as Lilly Pulitzer have included the caftan in their latest collections.

SM Woman also brings caftans to more people looking to update their wardrobe.

Anthony Nocom created a range of mid-calf caftans “made from quality charmeuse satin in floral prints that are cut with precision and good fit for women who want to feel good about themselves.”

Nocom, who has worked on menswear for SM for many years, has since transitioned into designing caftans, as well as lounge dresses and sleepwear for the store.

Pieces from the SM Woman caftan collection are priced from P599 to P699, and are available at select SM Stores in Metro Manila and provincial cities.
