After dominating the 2020 Chooks-to-Go President’s Cup series last week, members of the national team are ready to take their act to another level.
Joining two stages of the 2020 FIBA 3×3 World Tour will now get Joshua Munzon and Alvin Pasaol ready for the Olympic qualifiers next year.
“This gave an insight on how far we have gone. So definitely, we will put this to the test in our next games,” said Munzon, the team skipper of the Family’s Brand Sardines Zamboanga City, which ruled the Grand Finals of the President’s Cup and claimed the P1-million grand prize.
Munzon and his teammates talked about their coming campaigns on Zoom following their latest title conquest.
In the grand finals, Munzon and Pasaol teamed up with Santi Santillan and Troy Rike to beat Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards, 22-19, in the last staging for the tourney last Friday.
In their next tournaments in Doha and Jeddah, they will again team up with Santillan and Rike to get ready for next year’s Olympic qualifiers.
“I want us to be in the stage to hopefully make some noise. It will be a big chance for us,” added Munzon.
The Doha Masters will be from November 20 to 21, while the Jeddah finals is slated on December 11 and 12.
They will be in for a big challenge because they will be up against four of the top five teams in the world–top-ranked Liman of Serbia, world no. 2 Riga, no. 4 New York Harlem and fifth-ranked Princeton.
Liman has top-ranked cagers in world no. 3 Stefan Kojic, no. 4 Mihailo Vasic, no. 6 Aleksandar Ratkov, and no. 11 Maksim Kovacevic.
Not far behind is no. 3 Riga of Latvia, led by world no. 2 Nauris Miezis, no. 5 Karlis Lasmanis, no. 12 Agnis Cavars, and no. 13 Edgars Krumins.
