Grab Philippines said Friday it plans to revive its motorcycle taxi operations after the government approved the resumption of the pilot study for ride-hailing services for motorcycles.
“We are seriously considering if given a chance, but we need accreditation [from the government],” Grab Philippines head of Transport Ronald Roda said in a virtual briefing during the launching of Grab’s new feature “Cash-in with Driver.”
Grab launched its Grab Bike operations in 2016, but it was suspended by the government because of the lack of guidelines for ride-hailing services for motorcycles.
Under the pilot study, Angaks, Joyride and MoveIt are allowed to operate motorcycle taxis in Metro Manila, Cebu and Cagayan De Oro.
Grab also set to roll out Cash-in with Driver by November, which allows cash-paying commuters to enjoy safe and reliable GrabCar services by simply activating their GrabPay wallets during the ride, paying cash to their drivers and receiving their change credited to their GrabPay wallets.
“With many of our kababayans required to physically be present in their workspaces and offices, transportation remains key in effectively driving safe and sustainable economic recovery for our communities and our country,” Roda said.
“Through this innovation, we hope to help ease the cashless barrier for our commuters by enjoining our driver-partners to not only provide a safe and reliable means of transportation, but to also help more Filipino commuters embrace cashless payment, and unlock the many benefits that await them with GrabPay,” he said.
Cash-in with Driver will be available on GrabCar 2-seater and 4-seater in Metro Manila, GrabBayanihan Car, GrabCar 2-Seater in Cebu and Pampanga and soon on GrabTaxi.
