To memorialize the 48th anniversary of the declaration of the Martial Law that sparked social unrest that led to the People Power Revolution, Awit ng Hinirang, a four-minute multimedia presentation that blends the wonders of kundiman, shadow play, live-action documentation, and stop-motion and digital animation, premieres Monday, Sept. 21.
To be presented by the Karilyo Shadowplay of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in collaboration with the internationally lauded Coro San Benildo, Awit ng Hinirang unravels the various faces and voices of heroism, the distinct beauty of the traditional Filipino love songs, the importance of the ideal image of a hero – in its varying interpretations in different landscapes, timescapes, and perspectives.
The performance likewise attempts to answer the question: Who deserves to be the chosen hero?
Awit ng Hinirang features an original kundiman conceptualized by Coro San Benildo Trainer, Anino Shadowplay Collective Member, and contemporary artist Teta Tulay. It is arranged by Coro San Benildo Trainer and Conductor Lorenz Gealogo.
It showcases fresh visual elements crafted by the student-artists of Benilde Culture and Arts Unit.
Awit ng Hinirang is open to the public and premieres on Monday, Sept. 21 at 3:00 p.m. on the official Facebook account of Karilyo at https://bit.ly/KarilyoBenilde_FB.
