Multi-titled coach Frankie Lim has left the basketball program of the University of Perpetual Help.

His decision to leave the school’s athletic organization came after the Las Pinas-based University decided to shut down all plans to restart sports activities this year following restrictions that were imposed to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Hindi na ako coach. I left na,” said Lim.

In the last two years that he was around, the Altas placed fourth in 2018 and seventh in 2019.

His contract has been suspended since the shutdown took place.

The university reportedly plans to reactivate the sports program next year, when the next season of the NCAA is expected to take place.

Lim said he has no immediate plans and has not shown interest in taking other coaching jobs at the moment.

Meanwhile, no new coach will take over the Lyceum Philippine University’s basketball program for the meantime.

School officials said they will be deciding on this soon following the appointment of former LPU mentor Topex Robinson as head coach of the Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters last Friday.

“Wala pang meeting because wala pa namang practice sessions,” said LPU Athletics Director Hercules Callanta.

School officials are waiting for the go signal for varsity squads to resume practices before making a bid to resume their meetings with the coaches.

Assistant coach Jeff Perlas would most likely take over as the next head coach and Director of Basketball Operations of the Lyceum System.

Robinson had to leave the athletic program because league rules in the Philippine Basketball Association prohibit head coaches from moonlighting as a coach of any other team out of the organization.

Perlas has been Robinson’s deputy since leading the Pirates’ program over the last five years.
