It’s loungewear’s time to shine.
The clothes we usually wear at home, or, sometimes, while running errands—if passable—are getting much attention as we spend more time indoors. The pieces brands usually showcase last in presentations are now front and center.
Take Uniqlo’s latest collection for the fall/winter 2020 season for example. The Japanese brand’s LifeWear clothing, “designed to improve the everyday life of everyone,” features new and updated pieces that promise “superior comfort” and “provide ease” when staying at home or performing daily tasks.
Dubbed “Sustainable Cities,” Uniqlo draws inspiration from concepts that impact consumers’ needs and wants. Divided into three categories, each consisting of pieces that embrace life indoors and outdoors, the new collection focuses on urban landscapes and design and architecture.
Outdoors
As the season heralds colder months and inclement weather, Uniqlo highlights its sports utility wear with functionality for sports and everyday wear, or as the brand puts it, “made to be worn as one mile wear, comfort work wear at home, and for staying healthy and active.”
The Airism and Dry Ex lines offer pieces whose functionalities suit life at home in a tropical country such as ours, while the Blocktech Parka, Pocketable UV Cut Parka, and Cocoon Parka offer outerwear solutions for the changing weather.
Work and craft
Modular, versatile, and easy to combine and layer are the characteristics of the pieces that comprise this category. These are clothes you can wear while working at home and for lounging later.
Smart Ankle Pants, EZY Colored Jeans, Jersey Relaxed Jacket, and Flannel Long Sleeve Shirt are highlighted in this recycling and upcycling-inspired category, along with lightweight Relaco Shorts, dainty blouses, and light cardigans and hoodies.
Art and design
Although a bit different from something one would wear at home, this category features pieces that form part of today’s urban uniform—something professional but also chic and comfortable. “Inspired by the cross pollination that takes place among architecture, furniture, and fashion design.”
Pair a rayon blouse with a chiffon pleated long skirt for a stylish yet comfortable wear for women, while men can nail that casual-professional-cool look in a fine cotton striped shirt, extra fine merino V-neck sweater, and a pair of Smart Ankle Pants.
Designers’ corner
Uniqlo also launches the latest collections of its collaboration with Christophe Lemaire for Uniqlo U, Ines de la Fressange, and Hana Tajima.
