Marcial slaps Blackwater with P100k fine

For returning to practice in an untimely manner last week, the PBA Commissioner’s Office punished Blackwater with a P100,000 fine.

Then, it started an investigation into claims made by its team owner when he stated plans to put the franchise up for sale.

After that Commissioner Willie Marcial instructed the team’s players and coaches to undergo swab testing.

When done, the squad will need to go through a seven-day self-quarantine.

The quarantine and the tests that will follow are tests to detect the presence of the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

Marcial said the sanctions were meted out following team owner Dioceldo Sy’s announcement that that the team has resumed workouts last Saturday.

The workouts were being done ahead of the PBA’s return to training, which was supposed to be on July 22.

The PBA was given the green light by the government’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

Already disappointed over this development, Sy has put forth plans to sell the club franchise for P150 million.

Marcial said his office is investigating Sy over his move.
