The Philippine Basketball Association is spreading its wings as it donated PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to three cities in Luzon in an effort to aid front liners amid the growing cases of coronavirus in the country.

The pro league has distributed PPE, face masks, gloves, and other protective gear to  hospitals in Pasig, Antipolo, and Binan in Laguna.

Pasig City Vice Mayor Iyo Bernardo personally went to the PBA office in Libis, Quezon City to personally receive the donations that will benefit the Pasig Children’s Hospital, Pasig City General Hospital, and the Rizal Medical Center.

The league, meanwhile, coordinated with Antipolo City Mayor Andrea Ynares and predecessor Casimero ‘Jun’ Ynares III, and Binan City Congresswoman Len Alonte and Vice Mayor Angelo Alonte for their respective donations.

All three cities had been regularly holding PBA games through the Philsports Arena (Pasig), Ynares Center (Antipolo), and the Alonte Sports Arena (Binan).

The protective supplies were made possible by the entire league board under chairman Ricky Vargas, with the support of Gillette Philippines.

Commissioner Willie Marcial earlier announced the decision of the PBA Board of Governors to donate P1 million worth of PPE in an effort to support the country’s health care system.

The move was made during the Board’s online meeting held last April 7, with all 12 member teams, namely Rain or Shine, Alaska, Barangay Ginebra, NorthPort, TnT Katropa, Meralco, NLEX, San Miguel, Columbian Dyip, Blackwater, Phoenix, and Magnolia committing to the worthy cause.

Marcial said more donations will be made by the PBA in the coming days and will include the city of Pasay under Mayor Imelda Calixto and the municipality of Talisay in Batangas.

The commissioner said a frontliner from Batangas named Michelle Padilla requested protective gears to be used by medical workers at the Talisay Health Center and Birthing Home.

Also under the list of the league is the Veterans’ Hospital, National Center for Mental Health, Batangas Provincial Hospital, among others.

Earlier, the board took care of the needs of PBA game-day personnel by donating a considerable amount to somehow help them augment their financial necessities after the entire Luzon was placed under the Enhanced Community Quarantine a month ago due to the health crisis.
