LGUs told to let in telecom personnel

The National Telecommunications Commission has urged local government units and homeowners associations to be more considerate in allowing the entry of telecommunications personnel to ensure the upkeep of the country’s internet connection during the enhanced community quarantine period.

NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba said connectivity was now essential for Filipinos to cope with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Telecommunications now serve as one of our lifelines. Having internet at home or mobile data allows us to keep updated with the current COVID-19 crisis and helps us get connected with our loved ones. Online grocery or food shopping, banking, study, consultation with medical experts, and entertainment are also some of the vital uses of the internet today,” Cordoba said.

Now on its fifth week, the ECQ has forced more businesses to direct their employees to do work from home arrangements.

Similarly, the Business Processes Outsourcing industry, a consistent pillar of the economy and a steady source of employment to many Filipinos, has required their employees to do work from home.
