Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya —The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and a travelers cooperative recently launched the first E-Jeeps in Cagayan Valley.
The 15 Solar E-Jeeps are owned and operated by the First Novo Vizcayano Travelers Transport Cooperative, which will cater to commuters from Solano to Bayombong towns and vice versa.
LTFRB Regional Director Edward Cabase said the E-Jeeps, which were launched in Solano, are the first of its kind in the region.
Cabase said the E-Jeeps are part of the national government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.
Designed by Star 8 Green Technology, the 23-passenger-seating E-Jeeps also offer free Wi-Fi connection, charging for cellphones and small gadgets, TV monitor, closed-circuit television camera, and small electric fans for the passengers.
“Passengers will have ease in paying their fare through a card, which can provide discounts for students and senior citizens,” Cabase explained.
As part of its launching, the E-Jeeps offered free rides from February 7 to 9 among commuters from Bayombong and Solano towns.
Drivers of the E-Jeeps are only allowed to speed up to 60 kilometers per hour to avoid untoward accidents.
The launching of the E-Jeeps was attended by Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Luisa Cuaresma, Vice Governor Jose Tam-an Jr. and local officials of Solano headed by Mayor Eufemia Dacayo.
