The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is a Philippine government agency under the Department of Finance celebrating its 118th anniversary this year.
With the theme "Moving Towards a Credible, Modern, and Professional Customs Administration," the agency is steadfast in pushing for change in a sector that proves to be one of the most vital cogs in the Philippine economy and its ascent to regional growth.
The Bureau prides itself on the milestones it has made so far through the hard work and commitment of its Customs personnel.
According to the BOC, they are committed to being better with shared goals to achieve, succeed, and to exceed their targets as public servants and customs professionals given by the highest standards of excellence and integrity.
Through the years, BOC evolved as they come across different reformations from changing titles, positions, and duties due to various laws until it is what it is today.
A testament to this was the BOC's move recently to introduce its 10 Point Priority Program for 2020 through its first Stakeholders' Engagement for the year attended by various bureau officials, key stakeholders, and members of the media as part of its celebrations this 2020 in a series of events from February 3-7.
The BOC stated that with the launch of this year's 10 Point Priority Program, the Bureau has another opportunity to prove its commitment in support of Commissioner Guerrero's thrusts and objectives towards competence and modernization.
The Program consisted of the continuation of the filling up of plantilla positions, full automation of frontline transactions, improvement of the BOC's risk management system, implementation of customs modernization program, attainment of ISO certification and PGS compliance, enhancement of trade facilitation, rationalization of penalty regimes, enhancement of management and technical skills, enhancement of stakeholder's engagement and intensification of border protection.
In addition to the 10 Point Priority Program, the event also showcased the Bureau's programs to enhance trade facilitation.
The Bureau aims to further improve revenue collection as a result of improved trade facilitation.
With the programs launched, the Bureau of Customs aims to set the tone for 2020 and carry the momentum gained in 2019 to truly move towards a credible, modern, and professional customs administration.
Moreover, the Bureau of Customs, led by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, recognized the service of BOC retirees and jubilarians who have served the Bureau for decades.
"To all our awardees and jubilarians, your service and contributions to the Bureau is much appreciated. Each of you has given the best years of your life, and we hope that the awards and recognition of your dedication properly express the gratitude and esteem that we have for each of you," he said.
