Heartbroken Filipinos react to Bryant’s passing

Filipinos on Monday mourned the passing of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash that also claimed the life of his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other passengers.

Here are their thoughts.

Malacañang Palace—Mr. Bryant was a frequent visitor in the Philippines. He was well-loved by his Filipino fans. #RIPMamba 

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial—The PBA has lost a dear friend in Kobe Bryant who leaves behind fond memories of seven unforgettable visits to our country.  Kobe was an exceptional basketball player, but beyond his athletic skills, he was known for his caring heart and love of family.  His life was an inspiration and a lesson to everyone that with hard work, dedication and self-sacrifice, nothing is impossible.  At 41, Kobe is gone too soon but his legacy will last forever.  The PBA mourns the passage of a man who has touched the lives of millions.  Rest in peace, Kobe.

PBA legend Benjie Paras—I remember in 1996, I was in LA watching the Lakers game. Fans loved him. Hindi pa siya masyadong ginagamit. I saw the way he played. Sabi ko, “sisikat ‘to.” 

Musical artist TJ Monterde—You will surely be a part of the stories Im gonna be telling my future kids, man. Thank you for the inspiration. Forever in our hearts. Cant believe Im saying this, RIP KOBE.
