Apalit, Pampanga”•This first-class municipality on Monday donated cash and goods totaling almost P500,000 to the victims of Taal Volcano’s eruption.
The cash donation was received personally by Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas from Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco, who visited the ashfall-stricken province Sunday.
Apalit’s cash donation was P200,000 from the mayor and municipal council and an additional P187,175 coming from the 12 barangays of the coastal town.
Known for its water-based tradition called Apo Iru Fluvial procession from June 28 to 30, Apalit also donated 665 sacks of clothes, 439 packs of goods composed rice, sardines, coffee, sugar, dish wares, bread, biscuits, hygiene kits like toothbrush, toothpaste, diapers, citron buds, sanitary napkins, water, bathing and laundry soap, underwear, towels, blankets and mattresses.
The donations of Apalit were in response to the appeal of Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda to assist the victims of the volcano eruption.
Pampanga experienced the same disaster during the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991, but because of the resilience of different sectors the province, business and nongovernment organizations, the province was able to recover.
