The Department of Health on Saturday reported a total of 57 firework-related injuries tallied between December 21 and 26.
The figure includes 35 victims aged 19 and below.
According to the Health department, all those who experienced firework accidents suffered multiple injuries or other wounds and burns on different parts of the body.
The data were obtained from 62 sentinel hospitals under DOH monitoring for firework-related injuries.
Compared to the same period last year, cases of firework-related injuries dropped by 49 percent.
“Despite recorded DOH cases being 49 percent lower compared to the 112 cases under the same period in 2024, the agency reminds the public that fireworks are dangerous—whether sold legally or illegally,” the DOH said in Filipino.
On Friday, the Philippine National Police logged its first casualty due to stray bullets.
The PNP said the incident happened during a “drinking spree in celebration of Christmas Eve” in Tondo, Manila.
Meanwhile, the PNP said the makeshift firecracker facility that exploded in a residential area in Barangay Bacayao Norte, Dagupan City and left two people dead and injured four others was operating without required permits.
“The makeshift facility was located in a residential area and operated without permits, as confirmed by Dagupan City Police and the Regional Civil Security Unit,” the PNP said in a statement yesterday.
The PNP underscored the grave dangers brought by illegal firecracker factories operating in residential communities.
“The incident was the recent of the same tragedies, and only highlighted anew the danger of setting illegal firecracker factories. We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, especially since it happened on Christmas Day when families should be celebrating together,” PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Nartatez Jr. said.
“The PNP has long warned that the illegal production of fireworks is not only against the law but also a direct threat to people’s lives. Unfortunately, this incident shows the deadly consequences when the law is ignored,” he added.
