There are at least three reasons why Roque “Rox” Santos has become among the prime movers in Philippine pop music. One, he has the talent and experience, which is still the most important aspect in gaining mainstream recognition.
You can have all the backing and an influential circle of friends, but if you don’t have the basics—natural skill in coming up with infectious tunes and relatable lyrics, and familiarity with what’s marketable to your target listeners—you’re not going to take off high enough.
The latest proof that he has it? He’s going to be recognized at the Gawad Pilipino Awards 2025 as among the Dangal ng Bayan awardees for his “exceptional achievements and unwavering commitment to excellence in music.” By the time this column piece is published, he might have received the award at a location in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Based on Muso.AI data, Rox—music producer and songwriter—has reached eye-popping milestones in his career that are very difficult to match. Songs he has played significant roles in have been streamed nearly 3.2 billion times across digital platforms.
The views on social media are as staggering, now measured at 747 million. Well, 747 is an iconic number from the Boeing trademark, which described such a jumbo jet as the Queen of the Skies.

No doubt, Rox is on top of the world as we go to the next half of this decade. His numbers apparently put him inside the top 500 record producers worldwide.
“These numbers reflect Rox Santos’ extensive catalog of hit songs, theme tracks, and artist projects that continue to resonate with audiences both locally and internationally,” one music observer noted.
The Influencers Watchlist Awards handed him the Influencer Hall of Fame for Songwriting & Hitmaking last August. They recognized him for his “mastery in creating theme songs, heartfelt ballads, and chart-topping hits.”
As if having the support of ABS-CBN Music for his pursuit of pop wasn’t enough, he was even made head of its sub-label StarPop.
According to the ABS-CBN Corporate Newsroom, as head of StarPop, Rox Santos continues to shape the future of OPM by signing and developing a new breed of artists.
Three StarPop artists have been the recipients of Rox’s good work. Belle Mariano has over 200 million Spotify streams and YouTube views in total, while Maymay Entrata and Klarisse De Guzman each generated around 100 million, still, that many.
For these triumphs, Rox is excited about his upcoming projects with Maymay, Belle, 1621, DNA, Jarren Garcia, and Kai Montinola, among selected others.
Something worth noting is his efforts for Bryan Chong, whose album Departure he entirely produced, and who was likewise chosen by Vice Ganda to perform the main theme song “Tala” for a Metro Manila Film Festival entry. Chong’s album package features mostly self-composed, true-to-life tracks based on his personal experiences, including “Isang Gabi Lang” and “Sugal.”
“I will remain committed to continuously discover new artists and produce breakout projects—not only for the local scene, but also for the global stage,” Rox said.
Numbers don’t lie. Rox Santos has been providing us with the truth as we know it through music creation and artist development.
