The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is fully prepared for the anticipated increase in passenger traffic for the long holiday break, the Manila International Airport Authority said on Tuesday.
MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines said various measures have been implemented to guarantee the safety and comfort of passengers, including improved security protocols and increased staffing at key locations within the terminal.
Travelers are advised to arrive at the airport in advance to avoid delays.
Facility improvements at NAIA are also being implemented by the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) to address the expected holiday travel surge and in preparation for the Philippines’ hosting of the ASEAN meetings in 2026.
These upgrades underscore the need for sustained infrastructure enhancements amid steadily increasing passenger volumes.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier led the launch of new electronic immigration gates and self-check-in kiosks at NAIA. These systems utilize passport scanning, facial recognition, and automated check-in technologies, significantly reducing processing times and enhancing overall passenger flow.
The NNIC projects that more than 2.5 million passengers will pass through NAIA from December 20, 2025, to January 4, 2026, with daily passenger traffic reaching up to 170,000.
To manage this influx, MIAA and NNIC deployed additional personnel, installed passenger assistance desks across all terminals, and strengthened coordination with airlines and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
Passengers are advised to allocate additional travel time, stay informed on traffic conditions, and strictly observe baggage regulations, including restrictions on power banks.
Likewise, authorities caution against using illegal transport services, as police visibility and security presence have been heightened throughout the terminals.
