‘Uwan’ victims get modular shelters—DHSUD

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development has turned over modular shelters to super typhoon “Uwan” victims in Mandaue City in Central Visayas for a safer and comfortable Christmas.

Housing czar Jose Ramon Aliling said the deployment of the modular shelter units is part of the establishment of Bayanihan Village in compliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide safer and dignified transitory refuge to typhoon-stricken communities.

The department has committed about 200 MSUs that will serve as temporary shelters to families displaced by “Uwan.”

Assistant Secretary Johnson Domingo represented the DHSUD during the simple turnover ceremony presided over by Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito Ouano.

The deployment of MSUs and setting up of Bayanihan Villages to calamity-stricken areas, spearheaded by Undersecretary Ed Robles, is among the latest innovations of DHSUD under the Bagong Pilipinas banner to uplift the living conditions of families displaced by disasters.

The department earlier deployed MSUs and set up Bayanihan Villages in earthquake-stricken areas in Cebu and Davao Oriental provinces, and to fire victims in San Juan City.
