PH Army, Japan defense seek humanitarian collab

The Philippine Army and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) are exploring opportunities to strengthen collaboration in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations.

Army chief Lt Gen. Antonio Nafarrete met with JGSDF chief-of-staff Gen. Arai Masayoshi on Dec. 16 at the Ground Staff Office in Ichigaya, Tokyo.

“The two leaders had a fruitful exchange of views regarding peace and stability between the two nations, and sought cooperation on HADR,” an Army news release said Friday.

“The PA values strong relationships with international stakeholders, with the intention of maintaining peace within the Indo-Pacific Region. Bilateral meetings with other key figures ensure the organization’s potential growth through training and subject matter expert exchanges,” it added.

Nafarrete is expected to attend the Land Forces Summit and Landpower Forum in Japan scheduled this week.
