MMDA widens EDSA bus coverage

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday announced it will allow provincial buses to traverse EDSA at nighttime beginning Saturday, December 20, until January 2, 2026, to accommodate the expected number of passengers heading home to the provinces this Christmas.

“Starting on December 20, provincial buses will be allowed to pass along EDSA between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.,” the MMDA stated in its advisory.

These will also be allowed to traverse along EDSA round-the-clock (24 hours) starting on December 24.

Provincial buses coming from north Luzon must terminate their trips at the bus terminals in Cubao, Quezon City, while those from south Luzon must terminate their trips at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and Pasay.

Bus carousel trips will not be affected by this adjustment for the holiday season.

The MMDA indicated that travel speeds are seen to drop further to around 15 kilometers per hour as Christmas approaches, with an expected 20-percent rise in traffic volume due to the influx of individuals and vehicles from Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Central Luzon.

The agency reminded the public to plan their trips carefully, particularly regarding visits to malls where adjusted operating hours are in effect.
