“Golden,” a song from the hit Netflix animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” been shortlisted for Best Original Song at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the track is among 15 songs still in contention for the category at the 98th Oscars, narrowing the field from 65 eligible entries. According to the Academy, members of its Music Branch voted to determine the shortlist and eventual nominees.
Performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, “Golden” appears in “KPop Demon Hunters” as a song by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntr/x. The track plays a pivotal role in the film, which centers on a trio of pop idols who secretly battle demons while navigating fame and friendship.
Released earlier this year, “Golden” found massive commercial success, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in August and becoming one
of the most-streamed songs tied to an animated release in recent years.“
KPop Demon Hunters” has emerged as one of Netflix’s biggest animated hits to date, praised for its music-driven storytelling and vibrant visuals.
The final Oscar nominations will be announced in January, with the Academy Awards ceremony set to take place later in the year.
