PSA urges job seekers to use National ID for employment applications

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is encouraging job-seeking Filipinos to leverage their National ID in their applications, especially after preliminary results from the September 2025 Labor Force Survey showed an estimated 314,000 new entrants to the labor force were unable to secure work.

PSA Undersecretary and National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Claire Dennis Mapa emphasized the ID’s role.

“Filipinos can rely on the National ID System not just in accessing various services but also in pursuing job opportunities,” he said.

Mapa highlighted the ID’s utility for first-time job seekers in obtaining necessary government documents for work applications and noted that the National ID is free of charge, offering an advantage to those starting their careers.

The Digital National ID, accessible through the eGovPH app, is positioned as a convenient and valid proof of identification for job applications.

“The Digital National ID, which can be presented as a valid proof of identification for job applications, is within reach and is just a few taps away through the eGovPH app. Jobseekers can conveniently access an official document through their mobile devices,” said Mapa.

First-time job applicants can access the Digital National ID by downloading the eGovPH app, signing up, inputting required information and undergoing a live selfie for identity verification. Users also have the option to add an e-signature.

The PSA cited success stories, including Marichelle Faith Tinaco from Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, who used her Digital National ID for her application for a licensure examination for teachers and an English as second language (ESL) teaching position.

“I was able to use my Digital National ID in processing my application for the Licensure Examination for Teachers. I also used it when I applied as an English as Second Language (ESL) teacher. I highly recommend accessing the Digital National ID via the eGovPH app,” she said.

Another registrant, Nicolle Agravante, a student from Southern Leyte, registered for the National ID to prepare for future employment.

“Even though I’m still a student, when I work someday, since ID is usually required when applying for a job, I can use the National ID,” she said.

Assistant secretary and deputy national statistician of the PhilSys Registry Office Rosalinda Bautista urged unregistered Filipinos who need a valid ID for job applications to sign up.

“Registering for the National ID is very easy and very fast. We encourage our first-time jobseekers to register to have a free valid proof of identity that they can certainly use in their job applications. For those already registered, they can access their Digital National ID anywhere on their mobile devices,” Bautista said.

The PSA said that as of Oct. 31, 2025, 90,290,024 Filipinos have been successfully registered and verified in the National ID system. About 89,344,827 Digital National IDs were ready for access via the eGovPH app as of Nov. 6, 2025.
