THE Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in Negros has officially downgraded the alert status on Mt. Kanlaon as the volcano continued to show signs of calming down.
The downgrade takes into consideration the establishment of the OCD Negros Island Region (NIR) and the subsequent transfer of the chairmanship of the Regional Task Force (RTF) Kanlaon from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to its Region 7 office.
With this transition, the primary responsibility for coordination, monitoring, and response operations related to Mt. Kanlaon has now been assumed by OCD–NIR.
Despite the downgrade, the RDRRMOC Region VI will continue to maintain routine monitoring, information coordination, and provide inter-regional support as necessary. RDRRMC VI remains on standby and ready to extend assistance to OCD/RDRRMC–NIR and other concerned agencies should the situation warrant.
