THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said cops involved in indiscriminate firing of firearms during the holiday revelries will face stiff sanctions including removal from their posts.
“Our PNP chief has issued a memorandum circular. This is what we call the one strike policy, when there is indiscriminate firing in localities and it is unavoidable, our PNP chief gives them 36 hours to resolve the incident or else they will be relieved from their posts,” PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said in a media forum in Quezon City hosted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. imposed a one-strike policy on police commanders who fail to resolve cases of illegal discharge of guns.
Nartatez reminded field commanders he expects them to immediately act on cases involving illegal firing of service firearms during the holidays.
