Marcos okays multi-year pay hike of MUPs

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday announced a multiyear increase in the base pay and allowances of military and uniformed personnel (MUP).

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed the President’s directive to increase the remunerations of soldiers and other members of the country’s uniformed services, saying the move affirms the administration’s recognition of their sacrifices.

According to the President, the government will raise the base pay of all MUP under the Department of National Defense (DND), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority.

The salary hikes will be implemented in three tranches on January 1 of 2026, 2027, and 2028.

The President also announced an increase in subsistence allowance, which will be set at P350 per day starting Jan. 1, 2026.

In a message addressing the troops, the Command-in-Chief said the past year brought a series of calamities, strong typhoons, consecutive earthquakes, volcanic unrest, and widespread flooding, where soldiers, police, and other uniformed services served as the “reliable backbone” of government response.

“Amid all this, our military and uniformed personnel have remained a steadfast pillar of the nation,” Marcos said.

“Just wages and adequate support, this is what the nation offers our defenders,” he added.

In a statement, AFP Spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said the President’s order underscores the government’s appreciation for the men and women in uniform who “dedicate their lives to protecting our people and safeguarding our sovereignty.”

“We welcome the President’s directive to increase the base pay of AFP personnel and other members of the uniformed services. This gesture reflects the administration’s recognition of the sacrifices made by our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines,” Padilla said.

She added that the pay hike is expected to boost the morale of the troops and further strengthen their resolve to serve with professionalism and integrity.

“This support will not only uplift the morale of our troops but also strengthen our commitment to perform our duties with professionalism, integrity, and faithful service to the nation,” she said.
