Two local airlines have canceled at least 70 domestic flights, impacting thousands of passengers on Saturday, in response to an advisory from Airbus mandating a software update for A320 and A321 aircraft models.
Passengers are currently seeking alternative travel options as the airlines strive to implement the required updates.
The airlines have also advised travelers to verify their flight statuses and remain updated on any additional disruptions.
As of 9 a.m., Philippine Airlines (PAL) has suspended 16 flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), affecting passengers traveling to and from Puerto Princesa, Davao, Tacloban, Caticlan, Iloilo, Tagbilaran, and Bacolod.
“The technical advisory from Airbus requires an immediate software rollback. Considering the time required for the software rollback, airlines will be constrained to implement adjustments to flight schedules,” PAL management stated in its advisory to travelers.
“We are actively working to minimize the impact on your travel plans. Your safety and comfort remain our highest priorities at Philippine Airlines,” it added.
Cebu Pacific (CEB) also canceled at least 60 flights, affecting passengers in Manila, Iloilo, Caticlan, Puerto Princesa, Davao, Dumaguete, Bohol, Tacloban, Dipolog, Roxas, Cebu, General Santos, Legazpi, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Pagadian, Zamboanga, and Clark.
“We have also deployed additional airport staff to assist passengers and hope to normalize operations soon,” CEB said.
The airlines assured stakeholders that passengers impacted by the cancellations have been informed via email and provided with options to rebook their flights, request a refund, or utilize a travel fund.
Travelers are encouraged to check their email for further instructions and updates regarding their flight status.
