Eleven people were killed when a truck crashed into a passenger van yesterday in Libod, Camalig, Albay.
Authorities said the truck allegedly lost its brakes and collided with the van, causing both vehicles to plunge off a cliff into a river.
LTO–Bicol director Edgar Allan Castillejos issued a show-cause order against Recson Zamora, the truck driver from Daet, Camarines Norte, and Miguel Cerdeno, the registered owner from Tiwi, Albay.
Castillejos directed the driver and the truck’s owner to submit a sworn affidavit to the LTO–Intelligence and Investigation Unit in Bicol within 10 days of receipt of the order.
The driver may face charges of reckless driving, while the registered owner may be held liable for operating a motor vehicle with defective accessories.
The vehicle has also been placed on alert status until a valid motor vehicle inspection report is submitted proving that it has passed inspection.
