Vice President Sara Duterte condemned the killing of Tres De Mayo, Digos City barangay captain Oscar “Kap Dodong” Bucol Jr., expressing deep outrage and sorrow over the attack.
In a statement on Thursday, November 27, Duterte denounced the murder, emphasizing that Bucol Jr. was simply exercising his right to speak out against corruption and politics, only to be brutally silenced by gun violence.
“Ipinapaabot namin ang aming pakikiramay sa pamilya, mga kasamahan, at komunidad na naapektuhan ng trahedyang ito (We extend our condolences to the family, colleagues, and community affected by this tragedy),” the statement read.
The vice president also reaffirmed their commitment to protect the rights and freedoms that allow everyone to speak, ask questions, and participate without fear.
“Sa pag-alala sa kanya, muli naming pinagtitibay ang aming paninindigan na protektahan ang mga karapatan at kalayaang nagbibigay-daan sa lahat na magsalita, magtanong, at makibahagi nang walang pangamba,” she added.
(In remembering him, we once again strengthen our stance to protect the rights and freedoms that enable everyone to express themselves, ask questions, and engage without apprehension.)
On Tuesday, Bucol was shot dead while he was going live on Facebook.
In response, the Digos City Police Station has established a Special Investigation Task Group to focus on the investigation of the incident.
A reward of P2 million has been announced by authorities for information leading to the arrest of the gunmen and masterminds behind the killing of the barangay captain.
