The Quezon City government on Thursday assured the public that the African swine flu (ASF) virus infection in 14 lechon popular establishments in the “lechon capital” of La Loma has been resolved.
“La Loma is now ASF-free,” it announced in a statement ahead of the Christmas holidays, when demand for roasted pig is the highest.
Last November 13, the city government issued temporary closure orders against 14 stores in La Loma after several pigs in the area tested positive for ASF.
After the temporary closure orders, the establishments, in collaboration with the City Veterinary Department and QC Health Department, conducted daily disinfection for a week in compliance with the memorandum of the Bureau of Animal Industry.
Apart from disinfection, the 14 establishments were ordered to comply with the required sanitary, safety, and health protocols.
To date, three establishments have been given a lifting order to reopen after passing the regulations of the City Health Department and the City Veterinary Department.
“The local government will continue to assist entrepreneurs to ensure that all of them follow protocols and maintain the quality of products coming from La Loma,” the city government said.
