The camp of Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro remains confident that the charges filed against her by former city jail warden Byron Garcia will be dismissed.
In a statement Monday, her lawyer Ferdinand Topacio called the complaint a “nuisance” and “the most laughable of all the harassment suits.”
Topacio said they expect the governor to be cleared of what he described as “ludicrous charges,” but lamented that such tactics distract her from working for her constituents after years of poor governance under her predecessor.
The complaint stemmed from a photo of Baricuatro wearing a police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) uniform, allegedly AI-generated, leading to a case for supposed violation of Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code.
Garcia, who filed the complaint, is the brother of former Cebu governor Gwen Garcia, whom Baricuatro defeated in the 2025 elections.
The camp added that filing such cases amid ongoing hardships and calamities in Cebu shows “an utter lack of concern,” instead of helping ease the suffering of their provincemates.
